Important BBQ Safety Reminders from GCHA!
Enjoying the Heatwave Safely
As the temperature rises and the sun shines brighter, we want everyone in our community to make the most of the summer weather while prioritising safety. If you’re planning to fire up the BBQ, it’s crucial to follow these important safety instructions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
🔥 BBQ Safety Measures:
- NEVER use a BBQ on a balcony, inside a building, tent, caravan, or any enclosed space. The carbon monoxide fumes produced by a lit BBQ can be extremely dangerous and potentially fatal within minutes.
- Always position your BBQ on a flat, fireproof surface, keeping it well away from flammable objects such as sheds, fences, trees, and tents.
- Avoid BBQing on dried grass or near buildings to minimize fire risks.
- Never leave a BBQ unattended, as accidents can happen swiftly.
- Keep children, pets, and garden games away from the BBQ area to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Have a bucket of water or sand nearby for emergency use in case of fire.
🚫 Public Spaces and BBQs: We want to ensure the safety of our community and protect our outdoor public spaces during this heatwave. Therefore, we kindly ask that you refrain from using BBQs (including disposable ones) in outdoor public areas, except in designated areas where purpose-built BBQ facilities are available. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Let’s make this summer a safe and enjoyable one for everyone. By following these safety guidelines and being considerate of our neighbours and outdoor spaces, we can create a positive and secure environment for all to enjoy.
