Celebrating 60 years of GCHA
A memorable milestone for our community
This year we have been marking an incredible milestone for Gravesend Churches Housing Association, as we celebrate 60 years of providing safe, secure homes and building a strong sense of community. Our 60th anniversary has been a time of reflection, celebration, and gratitude, and we’ve been lucky to share these moments with the people at the heart of GCHA – our residents, staff, contractors and supporters.
As part of our anniversary celebrations, we hosted a resident event in August that brought people together for an afternoon of fun, connection and community spirit. Despite the uncooperative August weather, which seemed determined to rain on our parade, the event was a great success! The resilience and good humour of our residents shone through, with laughter, conversations and warm cups of tea shared in the church hall!
We also hosted a special corporate event to mark the occasion, bringing together residents, contractors and suppliers, staff and distinguished guests, including the mayor of Gravesham. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on GCHA’s rich history, from our humble beginnings in 1964 to the role we play today in supporting affordable housing in Gravesham.
Speeches and talks highlighted GCHAs journey, the challenges we’ve overcome, and our plans for the future as we continue to adapt and grow in the housing sector. It was a truly inspiring morning with a sense of pride felt by all who attended. The event allowed us to not only celebrate our past but also look forward to the future, ensuring GCHA continues to thrive for decades to come.
One of the standout moments from both the resident and corporate events was the contribution made by Pat, chair of our resident scrutiny panel. Pat kindly prepared a selection of cakes for both occasions, which were enjoyed by all. Her efforts, alongside her continued dedication to the scrutiny panel, added a thoughtful and personal touch to the celebrations, and we greatly appreciate her support.
In addition to the live events, we are excited to have launched an interactive timeline on our website, which showcases some of the most notable moments in GCHA’s history. From our formation in 1964 to recent achievements, the timeline is a living document which we will continue to update with key milestones. It provides a detailed look back at how we’ve evolved and the ways in which we’ve addressed issues important to our residents. We’ll also be sharing resident stories, blog posts, and news articles that highlight the ongoing work we do to support our community.
Celebrating this milestone has been an uplifting and positive experience, one that we are so pleased to have shared with the residents we serve. It’s been wonderful to see so many come together and we are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to making these events so special.
As we move forward, we remain dedicated to providing homes where people can feel safe, valued and part of a community. Here’s to another 60 years of making a difference together.
