Tackling Flytipping on GCHA Estates
We recognise the detrimental effects of fly-tipping on our community’s environment and the quality of life for our residents. Fly-tipping, littering, dog fouling, and abandoned vehicles are not only an eyesore but also a criminal offence that can lead to significant environmental harm and degradation of our shared spaces.
Fly tipping involves illegally dumping waste on lands not licensed to receive it. This practice can lead to pollution, attract pests, and create hazardous conditions for residents and local wildlife. It undermines our efforts to maintain clean, safe, and welcoming estates for everyone.
Our Plan to Combat Fly-tipping
In response to the rising instances of fly-tipping on our estates, we are actively developing a robust strategy in collaboration with the local Borough of Gravesham. Our joint efforts are focused on enhancing surveillance, increasing enforcement, and promoting community awareness and participation in waste management solutions.
How Residents Can Help
Reporting Fly-tipping:
If you witness fly-tipping in progress or discover dumped waste on the estate, your immediate reports can greatly assist in addressing the issue. When reporting, please provide:
- The date, time, and location of the incident.
- Details of the waste include the type and volume and, if possible, photographs.
- Descriptions of any vehicles involved, including the registration number.
- Descriptions of persons involved if safely observable.
This information is invaluable for local authorities and us to take prompt and effective enforcement action.
Prevention Tips:
- Use authorised waste disposal services: Ensure your waste is disposed of correctly using council-provided services or licensed waste removal companies.
- Educate and engage: Share information about the correct disposal of waste and the consequences of fly-tipping with neighbours and friends.
- Participate in community clean-ups: Join or organise local clean-up events to keep our areas tidy and discourage illegal dumping.
Future Steps
We are committed to finalising and sharing the details of our fly-tipping strategy as soon as possible. This strategy will outline specific actions and initiatives to prevent, monitor, and rapidly respond to fly-tipping incidents.
We appreciate the cooperation and support of all residents in keeping our estates clean and free from fly-tipping. Together, we can maintain a safe and pleasant environment for everyone.
If you have any suggestions or want to be more involved in our environmental efforts, please get in touch with us. Let’s work together to keep GCHA estates a great place to live!
